Our flooring specialists have considerable expertise when it comes to floors, including extensive experience with floor planing. Floor planing is a special process that is performed when the floor is badly damaged or crooked, prior to a regular floor sanding. While floor planing is not a solution on its own, it is the first step in the process when the floor is badly worn or damaged.
For floor planing, a floor planing machine or 16 grit sandpaper is used – followed by floor sanding and floor treatment. Floor planing typically removes 1–2 mm of the floor’s thickness. However, this depends on how crooked the floor is. If it is very crooked, additional millimetres will be sanded away to make the floor straight. Floor planing is the perfect solution for you if your floor is a bit crooked or has been left uncared for for many years.
DO YOU HAVE FILLER ON YOUR FLOOR?
If your floors are plagued by hardened filler from construction work, etc., you should pay particular attention. It means that you are required to carry out a floor planing of your floor before you are ready for a regular floor sanding. Sometimes you will find that the filler has taken care of the underlying floor, but the opposite phenomenon also holds true in other situations.
We discourage all inexperienced individuals from performing floor planing as you risk causing more harm than good – and it can be an expensive lesson if you require a completely new floor for the sake of saving a bit of money by doing it yourself.
